How long does the program take?
All modules consist of 6 sessions. Each session takes 45-60 min to review the materials. Teachers can return to previous sessions for review, but will need to spend at least 1 week on each session before beginning the next. We recommend completing the program in 6-8 weeks.
How much time will the program take each day?
The program was designed with teachers’ busy schedules in mind. Viewing a session and planning activities for the week should take about 1 hour. Implementing the interventions in the classroom will take more time. If teachers are able to invest time and energy on the program, they should see this investment pay off! Will I be given access to the program right away?
We are currently seeking 300 classroom teachers working within Canadian public school systems to participate in a sustainability and implementation study on the ASSIST program. Eligible participants will be asked to complete several questionnaires before they begin, which will take about 20 minutes. They will also be asked to complete a series of questionnaires 8 weeks after enrolling in the study, which again will take 20 minutes. One short questionnaire will also be sent at the 6-month follow-up. This will allow the ASSIST team to evaluate the program.
How does the program work?
ASSIST is a suite of online modules. Currently, we have three modules: one on attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), one on autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and one on learning disabilities (LD). We also have a pilot module on disruptive classroom behaviour. Each module focuses on building knowledge of the disorder/problem and guiding teachers through implementing evidence-based interventions in the classroom while promoting communication, collaboration, and self-care. Specific interventions will depend on the module as these vary among disorders.
When will the results of the program be seen in the classroom?
Every student is different, and as such response to the program can vary. However, if teachers complete the activities and follow the program, they should see results by the end of the 6 sessions.
What do I need to participate?
All teachers need in an internet connection and an email address. All information and materials are provided online.
